Priority of Access

Start Strong Community Preschool guidelines require SOS Preschool to give equal priority of access to:

  1. Children who are at least 4 years old on or before 31 July in that preschool year and not enrolled or registered at a school
  2. Children who are at least 3 years old on or before 31 July in that preschool year and are eligible for equity loading:
    • children from low-income families
    • children with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background
    • children with disability and/or additional needs
  3. Children with English language needs
  4. Children who are at risk of significant harm (from a child protection perspective).

SOS Preschool aims to support our community by:

  • Ensuring up to 10 places are available for children who require subsidised fees (eligibility based on parent holding a health care card or child identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander)
  • Ensuring up to 10 places are available for children with high support learning needs, based on the individual needs of the children.

Where applications exceed the number of available places, enrolment decisions will be made by applying these priority categories together with other relevant considerations, including the availability of places, educator-to-child ratios, and the social, developmental and educational needs of the existing cohort and the preschool’s ability to provide a positive, inclusive and high-quality learning environment for all children.

SOS Preschool is committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and supportive learning community where every child is valued and encouraged to learn, participate and develop to their individual potential.

The director will look at enrolments for the following year in July.
