Parents are asked to provide a healthy lunch and drink. Wholesome sandwiches, salads, leftovers, fruit and vegetables are examples of suitable lunches. If your child prefers to have a hot lunch, please pack food into a suitable thermos container to be kept in their lunch bag. This enables children to maintain independence and responsibility in accessing their lunch. The Preschool asks that cakes, sweets, “health” bars, chips and soft drinks not be included. Refillable water bottles are accessed by the children at lunch and at any time during the day.
Parents are able to refrigerate any perishable items that are in their child’s lunch box on arrival at the centre. Please make sure food is in containers or plastic bags that will not deteriorate if wet. Please ensure the items are marked with child’s name. At lunch time all items will be brought from fridge for children to access. Whole lunch packs cannot be accommodated in the fridge. Alternatively, place an ice brick in your child’s lunch pack.
To establish a culture of less rubbish and waste we encourage parents to support our nude food/waste free lunch program. Limit inclusion of packaged foods and preferably pack small amounts of food into reusable containers. Children are then able to take home what they do not eat.
PLEASE REMEMBER WE ARE A NUT FREE PRESCHOOL – DO NOT SEND PEANUT BUTTER/NUTELLA SANDWICHES OR LOOSE NUTS OF ANY KIND.
Parents are asked to make a daily contribution of either: two pieces of fruit or vegetables, dried fruit, cheese, bread (wholemeal, pita, Lebanese, raisin). These may be left in the basket at the sign in shelf. These are cut up and shared for morning tea.
Birthdays are special days for the children. If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday at SOS you could send in a cake/cupcakes to celebrate. Cakes should be plain with simple decoration. We avoid any extras such as balloons, chips, lollies, etc
